20 Mar Council elections 2025
Voting takes place on Thursday May 1 2025 in 23 councils in England. Only one council is expected to count overnight, and declare early on Friday May 2. The others will start counting on the morning of Friday May 2, with results expected from lunchtime until late in the evening. There are also six mayoral elections on Thursday May 1.
These are the councils with elections:
Unitary: 8
Buckinghamshire, Cornwall, Durham, North Northamptonshire, Northumberland, Shropshire, West Northamptonshire and Wiltshire
Metro: 1
Doncaster
Non-Met: 14
Cambridgeshire, Derbyshire, Devon, Gloucestershire, Hertfordshire, Kent, Lancashire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire.

The mayoral elections are:
1 Cambridgeshire & Peterborough
2 Doncaster
3 Greater Lincolnshire
4 Hull & East Yorkshire
5 North Tyneside
6 West of England
PA will run a series of tests, including “as live” tests, running up to election day.
There will be tests of all 23 council and six mayoral elections on Tuesday April 8 and Wednesday April 16, with further dates to be confirmed.
